Abstract

892,659. Treating exhaust; exhaust ejectors. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV - UND MASCHINENFABRIK. July 7, 1960 [July 8, 1959], No. 23822/60. Class 7(2). The rate of air injection into an exhaust passage 9 of a diesel engine is controlled by a valve 11 so operated by a thermostat 14 upstream of an electrostatic filter 13 that the temperature of the gases passing through the filter is maintained above the dew point and below 200‹C. As shown applied to a fourcylinder in-line engine each cylinder exhaust passage 9 has an air injector 8 fed from an air manifold 10, and one passage 9 has a valve-controlled inlet 18 for deodorizing liquid, there being an exhaust manifold 12 interconnecting the members 9, 13. Over-control of the valve 11 to close it at engine idling may be effected by a linkage therefrom to the fuel control lever.
