826,903. Charge forming apparatus. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. May 21, 1958 [May 31, 1957], No. 16307/58. Class 7(3) Charge forming apparatus comprises an air intake passage 10 for supplying air to the cylinders of the engine, a throttle valve 16 in the passage to control the air flow therethrough, a device 18 for supplying a metered quantity of fuel to fuel nozzles 22 each arranged in the passage 24 downstream of the throttle valve and adjacent a cylinder of the engine, and a conduit 34 providing communication between the outlet of each nozzle and the intake passage upstream of the throttle valve, and a valve 38 in the conduit arranged for actuation by an engine temperature responsive device so as to restrict air flow through the conduit in inverse proportion to the temperature of the engine. The valve 38 is thus controlled by a temperature responsive device which may be located within the engine exhaust manifold cross-over passage (not shown) or may be disposed on the air intake conduit 10. The temperature responsive device may also control a fast idle cam (not shown). It is possible to provide communication between the conduit 34 and the conduit 10 upstream of the Venturi 14. With the engine cold the valve 38 will be closed. The invention may be used in combination with a device which gives fuel enrichment by altering the mechanical advantage of a fuel metering linkage.
