Abstract
371,582. Reciprocating pumps. CROW, W. S., 65, High Street, Burntisland, Fifeshire. April 11, 1931, No. 10697. [Classes 8 (i), 99 (ii), and 102 (i).] An appliance for clearing waste or gas pipes, spraying gardens, washing vehicles, inflating tyres, &c. comprises a barrel 5 with a piston 6 reciprocated by a handle 10. The end of the barrel is provided with a rubber washer 18 and may be applied directly to a waste pipe, a plug 17 being removed and lateral branches 12, 15 closed by stoppers 13, 16. Alternatively, the plug 17 is inserted and the branch 12 is coupled to a, valve-box 19, having an inlet valve 22 and an outlet valve 23 discharging into a chamber 24, to which is attached a hose 26 provided with a nozzle 27. The nozzle may be inserted into a waste or gas pipe, or the appliance may be employed for pumping liquids. For clearing gas pipes the attachment has an enlarged chamber 24 into which air is compressed, the chamber being provided with a pressure gauge and the outlet, which may be lateral, having a stop cock. In use the appliance may be secured in a pail, or to a plate 45, Fig. 3, by means of a bayonet joint 44 for the end of the barrel 5 and a clip 47 for the box 19.
