Mixing apparatus; valves, arrangement and disposition of.-In apparatus for aerating liquids the gas and liquid supply-pipes enter an aerating- chamber connected to a second aerating-chamber, which is connected to the delivery valve and is provided with a sni.ftvalve, which is normally closed. A valve, normally open, but arranged to be closed when the snift and delivery valves are open, is placed in the gas-supply pipe; special arrangements in connection with the snifting and the liquid supply are also provided. The gassupply pipe 1 enters the cylinder 10 through a lift valve A actuated 'by a lever 29. The liquid-supply pipe 33 enters the cylinder 10 through an opening controlled by a conical plug 36 actuated by the float 38. From the cylinder 10, pipes 12, 39 pass to the second cylinder 13, into which opens the delivery pipe 40 provided with a liftvalve 42. Perforated partitions 11, 14 are placed in the cylinders 10, 13. The cylinder 13 also communicates with a cylinder 22 through the snift-valve B, which is actuated by the lever 29. When the lever 29 is raised by depressing a handle 45 the valve A is closed: the valve B is then opened, allowing gas to enter the cylinder 22 and thus relieving the. pressure, so that liquid can enter by the pipe 33. The handle 45 then strikes against the spindle of the delivery valve 42 and opens it. When the handle is released the valves 42 and B are closed and the valve A opened. At the same time a valve 26 in a vent-pipe 25 connected to the cylinder 22 is opened. This valve is closed when the handle 45 is depressed. The vent pipe 25 and valve 26 may be dispensed with.
