Abstract
140,239. John, A. E. April 24, 1919. Fluid-actuated valves.-A valve device for automatically delivering a regulated quantity of liquid at predetermined intervals comprises a main valve actuated by fluid pressure under the control of an auxiliary valve actuated by a piston in a timing-cylinder, the outlet from which is controlled by a further auxiliary valve opened by the movement of the main valve. The main valve 5 is carried by a piston 1 constructed as described in Specification 145,133, so as partly to close the side inlet port 3 when the valve is in engagement with the seat 6. The hollow valve spindle 13 has an inlet port 14 at its lower end, and at its upper end carries an adjustable seat 12 for a valve face 11 carried by the timing-piston 10. Water, leaking past the piston 1 and through the space 9 between the valve spindle and an extension 8 of the timing-chamber 7, passes through a central aperture in an auxiliary valve 15 into the chamber 7, and eventually raises the piston 10. This releases the pressure above the piston 1 and allows the main valve to open; the upward movement of the valve then causes a collar 18 on the spindle to engage and open the auxiliary valve 15 to drain the timing-chamber through an auxiliary outlet 17. The descent of the piston, which may be loaded by a spring, is retarded by restricting the air vent above the piston by a loose cover or valve-controlled orifice.
