Abstract
Animal fibres are dyed by applying the esters of leuco-vat-dyestuffs described in Specification 186,057 at an elevated temperature in a weak acid bath and then developing with an oxidizing agent; it is preferred to commence the dyeing in a bath containing a weak acid, such as an organic acid or sodium bisulphate or aluminium sulphate, and to exhaust the bath by addition of a mineral acid; the oxidizing agent may then be added to the same bath. In an example wool is treated with the sulphuric ester salt of leuco indigo in weak sulphuric acid solution, immersed in sodium nitrite solution, squeezed, and the colour developed in dilute sulphuric acid. Specification 203,681 is referred to.
