Abstract

In dyeing textiles, particularly cotton, mercerized cotton, viscose &c., by means of the esters of leuco vat-dyes described in Specification 186,057 the affinity of the fibre for the said esters is increased by adding to the bath a salt such as common salt or Glauber's salt, which lowers the solubility of the ester-salts. The development is then effected as described in Specifications 203,681, 212,546, 218,649, and 220,964. In an example viscose is dyed in a bath containing the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of leuco indigo, sodium nitrite, and Glauber's salt, and developed in dilute sulphuric acid also containing Glauber's salt. The effect of the salt addition varies with the fibre.
