Abstract

The alkalinity of vat-dye baths containing caustic soda is reduced by the addition of amounts of borates, especially alkali borates, to the same degree as is produced by the addition of boric acid to caustic soda as in Specification 340,267, i.e. to within the limits PH = 8 -- 13. The borate may be added before, during or after reduction. According to examples, woollen yarn is dyed with Caledon Red B N, Indanthrene Blue 5 G, and Caledon Jade Green, in caustic soda vats with the addition of borax or sodium metaborate. Specification 354,777 also is referred to.
