Abstract
274,303. Wylam, B., Harris, J. E. G., Thomas, J., and Scottish Dyes, Ltd. March 1, 1926. Grant of Patent opposed. Leuco flavanthrone, sulphuric esters of.- Leuco flavanthrone is treated with chlorsulphonic acid in presence of a tertiary base at a temperature of not less than 45‹ C., whereby reddish compounds are obtained which after solution in weak alkalies such as sodium carbonate solution can be dyed or printed on to cotton or other materials and the shade of flavanthrone developed by hydrolysis and oxidation. It is preferred to employ the tertiary base in quantity greater than that corresponding to one molecule of base to one molecule of chlorsulphonic acid. An example is given in which the base used is pyridine. Specifications 247,787 and 260,638 are referred to.
