Abstract

Fast dyeings on textile fibres are produced by applying to the fibre an o-aminoanthraquinonylthioglycollic acid and lactamizing this by treatment with dilute mineral acid at an elevated temperature. The starting materials may be obtained according to the process described in Specification 252,646, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]. In examples: (1) the sodium salt of 1 - amino - 4 - anilidoanthraquinone - 2 - thioglycollic acid (obtained by treating 2-bromo-1-amino-4-anilidoanthraquinone with sodium sulphide and treating the 2-mercapto derivative so formed with chloracetic acid) is applied to wool in aqueous acetic acid solution containing sodium sulphate, the fibre is rinsed, and heated to 90 DEG in aqueous hydrochloric acid solution; the wool is dyed greyish-blue. In the same manner 1.4-diaminoanthraquinone-2-thioglycollic acid and 1.5-diaminoanthraquinone-2.6-dithioglycollic acid can be lactamized on the fibre to give violet to red shades. It is stated that o-aminoanthraquinonyl thioglycollic acids can be lactamized in aqueous solution by dilute mineral acids as well as by heating in nitrobenzene with or without addition of dehydrating agents (German Specification 232,076).
