Abstract

In dyeing wool with vat dyestuffs, in the course of the process there are added to the vat, which preferably contains ammonia and glue or other protective colloid, first an ammonium salt and then an acid or acid salt until the reaction is neutral or feebly acid. In examples, loose wool is dyed green by introduction into a vat containing glue, ammonia, hydrosulphite, indigo and Helindone yellow CG. vat. After 20 minutes ammonium sulphate is added and subsequently acetic acid. When the vat is exhausted the liquor is run off and fresh water introduced. The material is finally hydro extracted or oxidized in baskets. Wool cloth is dyed blue in a "Lindner apparatus" containing glue, ammonia, hydrosulphite and indigo. Subsequently, ammonium sulphate and then acetic acid are added through a dropping apparatus. Similarly, loose wool is dyed black in an "Obermaier apparatus" with Helindone black T vat solid, and sliver is dyed brown with Helindone brown CM vat, and a small proportion of indigo, bisulphite being used as an alternative addition to acetic acid. Worsted yarn is dyed light blue in an "Esser-apparatus" with indigo, ammonium acetate and acetic acid being subsequently added. Specifications 7829/00 and 8510/02 are referred to.
