Abstract

Material composed wholly or partly of wool is shrink proofed by treating it at a temperature in excess of 70 DEG C. with a aqueous solution containing permonosulphuric acid or salts thereof which contains less than 10% by weight of sulphuric acid and has a pH of less than 8. Scoured or unscoured wool may be treated and the solution may also contain a synthetic detergent. The wool may subsequently be treated with an aqueous solution of a salt of sulphurous acid which may contain a detergent. The treatment may be combined with a dyeing process, the wool being first dyed with, for example, Neolan Red GR and permonosulphuric acid then being added to the exhausted dye bath.
