Abstract

Variable-speed gearing rendered automatic by the action of an oscillating means and acting through ratchets as described in Specifications 185,022, 206,204, and 206,700 is modified so that each complete oscillation of a driving pivot such as z, Fig. 1, produce at least two driving strokes of each pawl such as r. This is done by the toggle arrangement k, m, there being a fixed pivot l. A lever e connects a link x to the driving crank a and oscillating mass i. In an arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the oscillating mass 61 is supported in the toggle 62, 65, the driving pivot being 52. There is a weighted driving crank 51 and a fixed pivot 63.
