Abstract
218,097. Davidson & Co., Ltd., and Whitmore, J. June 21, 1923. Density separators.-A dust separator has a channel of spiral-helical form as shown in Fig. 1, or of flat spiral form as shown in Fig. 2, with a pocket 3 having an entrance tangential to the side of the passage for intercepting the dust. The duct 5 conveys the dust to the receptacle 6, which may be of the type described in Specification 196,537, and the clean gas emerges at the outlet 2. The receptacle 6 permits the flow of some air with the dust and further separation occurs in the receptacle. In other modifications, the separating channel has the form of a simple helix or a scroll. The entrance to the pocket 3 may be formed on more than one side of the channel and a fan or blower may be used to assist the flow of gas. A number of pockets may be employed and may be connected to different dust receptacles or all may be connected to the same receptacle.
