Inking-apparatus.-A duct roller 30 of an ink supply fountain is mounted in end plates 1 connected by cross bars 5, 20 which carry adjustable side plates 10, 26 whose edges engage in grooves in the end plates. The roller 30 is adjustably mounted by screws 34 passing through lugs 4 in the end plates and secured by locking nuts 35. The plate 26 may be fixed in the grooves 24 when thin ink is used or in the grooves 25 when thick ink is used. To provide tight joints each end plate has a flat recess 40 to receive a piece of packing 41 formed with the appropriate grooves 10<1>, 24<1>, 25<1> in continuation of the grooves in the end plates, and the bottom of each end plate has an arcuate recess 2<1> with a packing piece 43 which engages the side of the clipped down end of the roller 30. Both packing plates 41, 43 are backed by similar shaped metal follower plates with adjusting set screws to take up wear on the packing. The side plates 10, 26 carry lugs 12, 27 to which are attached adjusting screws 13, 28 passing through openings in the cross bars 5, 20. Nuts such as 14, 15 on each screw 13, 28 serve to adjust each side plate up or down, and a set screw tapped into each side plate and moving in a slot in its cross bar clamps the side plates in adjusted position. Screws 50 secured to lugs 3 on the end plates and carrying lock nuts 51 adjustably attach the fountain to the machine.
