Clamps.-A hand-screw comprises wooden jaws. a, b, metal operating screws c, d engaging nuts g, h fitted in recesses in the jaw b, and a metal thrust surface such as a thimble f recessed into the face of the jaw a, this surface being in alignment with the screw d. The thimble f is secured' by means of prongs thereon and is countersunk to receive the end of the screw d. The nuts g, It are situated on opposite sides of the jaw b so that the screws in operation tend to force the nuts into their recesses. The jaws may have faces x of metal, rubber, fibre or like material attached by an adhesive or by screws.
