Arrangements of hand and foot gear in conjunction with controlling apparatus.-The control rod 8 of a steering - wheel brake is provided at its ends with ball - and - socket joints 6, 7 and 9, 10 supported respectively by the brake drum cover plate 4a and the vehicle axle 1, the socket 10 being adapted to slide in a casing 11 and being urged to the left by an adjustable spring 13, so that the balls 7, 9 are always held firmly in their sockets. The ball 7 is provided with a groove 7<a> which is engaged by studs 12 in the socket 6, which is formed in the shaft of the brake-actuating cam 5. The joint 6, 7 may be located in line with, or outside of, the axis of the steering-pivot, and it may comprise a universal joint of the kind wherein grooves in a ball member are engaged by semicircular forks carried by the rod 8 and the cam shaft. The ball joints may be protected by flexible covers 16, 17.
