Abstract
213,413. Fornaca, G. March 12, 1923. Brakes, arrangement and disposition of.-In brake mechanism for the steering wheels of vehicles of the kind comprising a member slidable in the axis of the knuckle pin and having one end engaged by a tappet lever connected to the hand or foot lever and the other end bearing upon a member connected to the actuating means for the brake shoes or the like, this member is arranged to slide in guides secured to a part which turns with the knuckle pin and the tappet lever is rendered adjustable as to its angular position. The pin 8 provided with bearings in the fixed axle 18 has secured to it a crank 9 connected by a rod 10 to the hand or foot lever and a tappet lever 7 engaging one end of a rod 6 slidable within the knuckle pin 2. The other end of the rod 6 engages a block 11 slidable in a guide member 12 mounted on a disc 13 secured to the stub axle 3. A pair of toggle links 15, 15<1> are connected to the block 11 and to the brake shoes 16, 16<1>. The tappet lever 7 is keyed to the pin 8 by means of fine co-acting teeth formed on the periphery of the pin and within the boss of the lever whereby the angular position of the lever can be adjusted to compensate for wear.
