Brakes, arrangement and disposition of.-The blocks e of the steering wheel brakes of a. motor vehicle are actuated by a rotary shaft i having a brake-engaging member k which is rotatable about a pivot j in alignment or approximately in alignment with the pivot axis b of the wheel. The bracket g of the post b also provides the bearing for the actuating s'haft i. This shaft may be made in two parts, one for each front wheel, the parts being connected to an operating pedal. The invention may be applied to an external contracting brake. Owing to the disposition of the parts as described, if the wheels are turned about the post g for the purpose of steering, the brake pressure is automatically relieved somewhat if they happen to be applied at the moment.
