Direct gas-pressure apparatus, automatic; vacuum apparatus; valves for pressure fluid, actuation and arrangement of.-Combined singlechamber, automatic gas-pressure and vacuum apparatus for raising liquid fuel to supply a carburettor, consists of a chamber 1 connected by a gravity-actuated valve to the carburettor, and by a pipe 2 to a supply tank 3 which pipe supplies the chamber 1 and has a flap valve 18 to supply pressure gases to the tank. The gases from the exhaust manifold enter a duct 4, pass through gauze pipes 14, 15 and a reducing-valve 8 to a storage chamber 16, and, when the valve 11 is down and the float up, past valves 10, 11 to the tank. When the float sinks, the valve 11 is raised by tappet and spring toggle-lever mechanism to close the entrance from chamber 16 and connect the tank to the chamber 1 which is then recharged with fuel owing to the pressure in the tank. The partial vacuum of the engine intake manifold connected to a pipe 5 may assist in the charging, the combined sleeve and lift valve 13, 12 being in the position shown. The float 7 in its final upward movement reverses the valves 11, 12, 13, and cuts off and breaks the vacuum in chamber 1 when the valve 32 opens. Accumulation of fuel in chamber 16 is discharged by pressure on the opening of a hand or pressureoperated relief valve 9.
