Boxes; casings enclosing stuffing- boxes.-In a dry gas meter, leakage from the stuffing-box D is prevented by a pad B of felt &c., pressed on to the gland by a spring A contained in a cover C. The latter, which is represented for convenience as transparent, may be stamped from sheet metal and is soldered to the plate F.
