Abstract
Alcohol, prior to dehydration by addition of ordinary dehydrating agents, is mixed with substances not miscible with water such as chlorinated or nitrated derivatives of hydrocarbons, aldehydes and ketones, such as butyraldehyde and mesityloxide, esters, ethers, &c. Dehydrating agents mentioned are sodium or potassium carbonates, sulphates of iron, sodium copper or manganese, magnesium chloride, quicklime and calcium carbide. Specifications 204,697 and 206,516 are referred to.
