Abstract

208,757. Abad, J. M. Sept. 18, 1922. Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external.-A heater mounted on the exhaust pipe produces steam which is mixed with a current of air passing through the heater, the mixed steam and air being introduced into a chamber in which it converts crude hydrocarbon into vapour and is carburetted thereby, the resulting mixture being supplied to the manifold to supplement that from the carburettor and to economize the fuel used therein. The heater 1 receives its heat from the exhaust pipe 2 and is divided by a horizontal partition 3 into a lower water space and an upper air and steam space 5. Water is introduced through a filler pipe 4 and steam issues through a nozzle 6 to mix with air admitted through a hand-actuated valve 9, and automatic valves 11. 12. The mixed air and steam pass through a finely perforated pipe 6<1> and pipe 14 to a chamber 17, Fig. IV., surrounded by a chamber 23 containing the fuel to be vaporized. This fuel may be a composite fuel containing common benzol, sulphuric ether, naphthalene and acetone. and is fed through a tube 22 after removal of the cover 24. Holes 21 allow the vapour produced to mix with the air and steam. the whole passing by way of outlet 18 and a pipe 25, Fig. I, provided with a cock 26 to the inlet manifold 27. A non-return valve 12' may be fitted to the pipe 25.
