Abstract

208,750. Baker, B. H. Aug. 25, 1922. Springs, arrangement of.-A spring suspension for road vehicles comprises a main laminated spring and a quarter-elliptic auxiliary spring which is pivoted to the chassis and is pivotally connected to, or freely engages with, the axle casing or slip, the tension of the auxiliary spring being adjusted by varying the inclination of the spring about its pivotal connection to the chassis. As shown in Fig. 1, the main spring a consists of a semi-elliptic spring, the auxiliary spring b having one end pivoted to the chassis on a pivot c common to both springs and the other end bearing on the central member of the spring to which the axle e is connected. The inclination of the spring b is varied by an adjusted abutment d. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the main spring a consists of a quarter-elliptic spring, and both springs a, b are pivoted to the axle e. The adjustable abutment may comprise a screw d, as shown in Fig. 2, or a cam.
