Materials for making gas and other products.- In the carbonization or gasification of peat, sapropel, mud and similar fuels, a catalyst consisting of metals or metallic oxides, for example an iron compound such as iron oxide or a solution of ferrous bicarbonate or colloidal solutions of iron oxide, is in small quantities incorporated in the fuel before carbonizing whereby lower temperatures may be used and a higher yield of by-products obtained. The mixture may be made with the components either in the wet or dry state; or colloidal solutions may be mixed with the fuel.
