Abstract

208,248. Kay, A. P. R. Sept. 20, 1922. Retaining - devices b e low closure; stoppers secured by swinging bails; plug stoppers formed to a i d withdrawal; means for preventing loss of stopper; sealing - devices for stoppers.-A closure for a vessel comprises a closure member or cap a locked to the neck of the vessel d by a fastening of the press-button type and held captive by a lever b pivoted to a lug c or other part of the vessel and adapted to facilitate opening and closing. To secure the cap a to the lever, the limbs g, g<1> of the lever engage slots in the cap but with sufficient freedom to allow them to be sprung into locking engagement with a groove e on the neck of the vessel and to allow the cap automatically to correct any error due to position or to its arcuate path of approach. The closure is so proportional that a packing- disc h is compressed to form an airtight joint at 'the moment when the cap is locked on the vessel neck. As shown, the lever is of the second order and extends in front of the cap so that the closure may be removed by an upward pressure of the thumb of the hand which grasps the vessel, the connection of the lever to the vessel preventing the stopper from being lost. Inadvertent opening is prevented by a sliding clip j which prevents the limbs g, g<1> from spreading. The free end of the lever may be sealed to a catch k to facilitate the detection of illicit opening of the closure. The invention is also applicable to plug closures.
