207,979. Never-Stop Transit, Ltd., Adkins, B. R., and Lewis, W. Y. Nov. 15, 1922. Shafting. - Relates to means for supporting and connecting sections B, C of a shaft such as is used in conveyers to allow slight bending at the bearing, and comprises a stub shaft J actually in the bearing F, and a flexible diaphragm M. The conveyer shaft described carries upon pillars A<1> a spiral rail A for propelling. Into the end of section B fits a plug D, and into this fits a sleeve E secured by a pin E<1>. The sleeve E screws over the end of stub shaft J and is locked by a pin K. The self-aligning bearing F is supported in a casing G<2> with an upper removable portion G. The casing G<2> is integral with a pedestal H shaped as shown to clear the staggered ends of the rail sections. The diaphragm M connects a boss L upon the stub shaft to an end plug N in the shaft section C. The boss L slides on a feather J<1> to allow for expansion. The diaphragm is protected against undue lateral and longitudinal movements by webs. O<1>, N<1> respectively. A shaft section such as B is readily removed for repair by removing the pins E', K, screwing the sleeve E clear of the stub shaft, and lifting the cover G of the bearing at its other end. A modification is described for negotiating a perceptible change of shaft direction. In this there are two stub shafts connected by toothed gearing, and two diaphragm connections with the shaft section ends.
