Abstract
210,032. Baumann, K., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Oct. 19, 1922. Expansion joints.-A joint for pipes connecting flanges &c. subjected to relative motion is designed to allow angular flexibility without imparting end thrust. A flexible joint such as is shown in Fig. 1 comprising a short tubular member 6 having a corrugation 3 is provided in its interior with a rigidly connected flexible web 5. The latter may be twisted through 90‹ to allow flexibility in more planes than one. In a.nother modification, shown in Fig. 3, axial extension of the joint is prevented by the flexible bolt 7 secured in brackets 8 within the member 6. The flexible joints described above are particularly suitable in an extension pipe arrangement such as is indicated in Fig. 4 wherein the flanges 9, 10 subjected to relative movement are connected by an expansion pipe 11 having such flexible joints at opposite ends and at an intermediate point.
