Locking nuts. - A lockwasher or lock-nut comprises a convex stamping 1 with a central aperture which is slotted radially at a point in its periphery, and the sides of the slot are twisted in opposite directions 5, 6 through a distance equal to the pitch of the screw thread 3. The beading is gradual to enable the washer &c. to be screwed on to the thread. In use the washer or the like is placed above the nut to be locked, or on a screwed stem as shown, and flattened by pressing or hammering a sleeve which is placed over it. To release the lock, a tool is inserted under the edge of the flattened washer. The periphery of the washer may be of any suitable shape. Two washers may be used in conjunction. Specifications 11729/96, 21524/12, and 24055/12 are referred to.
