Abstract

205,893. Kay, H. July 27, 1922. Combined bolster and footstep bearings for the spindles of spinning, doubling and like machines. The inner tube 2 and the outer sleeve 3 are so formed that an annular tapering space is provided between the upper boss 2<c> of the tube and the sleeve, forming an oil cushion. As shown, the boss 2<c> of the tube is conical, being larger at the top, and fits within a cylindrical part of the sleeve 3, but in a modification the boss is cylindrical and fits within a conical part of the sleeve. Oil working up the spindle is led by grooves o<1> formed in the boss 2<c> and by ducts o<2>, o<3> to the contracting parts. The lower end of the tube 2 is of rectangular or other shape in cross-section to prevent rotation of the tube. Alternatively, a stud 3<a>, Fig. 4, may be employed.
