Abstract
205,205. Browning, J. July 14, 1922. Folding and collapsable vehicles; vehicles with removable bodies.-In a side-car attachment for motor and other cycles, the springs for supporting the removable side car upon a folding chassis such as described in Specification 14247/09, [Class 108 (ii), Road vehicles, Undercarriage details &c. for], are adapted to be turned into the plane of the chassis when folded and to be locked in their operative position while permitting the side-car to be mounted at a relatively low position. Tubes 3, Fig. 1, are mounted in fittings 5, 6 and are locked in the position shown by means of a lug 13 on a sleeve 12. On folding into the vertical the tubes slide in the fittings 6 thereby releasing the lugs 13 and so enabling the tubes 3 with their springs 1, 2 to be turned into the plane of the chassis, which may then be turned into a plane parallel with the cycle. In a modification, the tubes 3, Fig. 8, are non-rotatable and therefore when the chassis is turned into the vertical the springs 1 remain at right angles to the chassis. The rear springs 2 however are mounted on vertical spindles 17, Fig. 9, rotatable in sleeves 18, and having arms 20 engaging with the tubes 3 in operative position .to lock the spring, but when in inoperative position the tubes 3 disengage the arms 20 and allow, the springs 2 to be turned into a plane parallel with the chassis. The side-car is provided with pins 2 which engage the springs and are locked to the rear springs by means of a rotatable stirrup 23, Fig. 11.
