Motor power plant; working-fluid supply; balancing moving parts.-The low-pressure turbines of an installation are subjected to steam of relatively low temperature by placing a reheater only between the stages of the high-pressure turbine, which exhausts directly into the low-pressure turbines. A high-pressure turbine 1 comprises two stages 3, 4 separated by a diaphragm 2. Steam flows from an inlet 6 through the stage 3 and then by way of a pipe 9, a reheater, and a pipe 10 to the stage 4, which discharges through a pipe 13 into the low-pressure turbine 5. For balancing end-thrust, the inlets 7, 11 of the stages 3, 4 may be located either both at the middle or both at the ends. Alternatively, the steam may flow in the same direction in both stages 3, 4. The low-pressure turbine or turbines may be arranged on separate shafts, each driving a generator of similar output.
