Abstract

803,829. Steam turbines. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 7, 1957 [Feb. 17, 1956], No. 5023/56. Class 110 (3). A steam turbine plant comprises a highpressure turbine A, with two sections 4, 8 interconnected through a reheater 7, an intermediate pressure turbine B, having a highpressure section 12 and low-pressure section 13, and a double-flow low-pressure turbine C, coupled on a common shaft driving one or more loads G, a control valve 3 at the inlet of the high-pressure turbine, and an intercept valve 11 located after the reheater adjacent the inlet of a lower pressure turbine element. The arrangement is such that steam after leaving the high-pressure turbine is expanded in the high-pressure section 12 of the intermediate pressure turbine and then divided. Part passes through the low-pressure section 13 of the intermediate pressure turbine B to exhaust and the remainder passes to the inlet of the low-pressure turbine C for expansion in both sections thereof before passing to a condenser. Emergency valves 2, 10 may be provided. The invention is not limited to the arrangement of the turbines on the axis or the directions of steam flow shown. Specification 718,552 is referred to.
