Abstract
1432. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Oct. 18, 1909, [Convention date]. Plant; reversing.-In a marine turbine installation for driving one or two pairs of separate shafts, there is provided a high-pressure ahead turbine having an impulse stage followed by a reaction stage on one shaft of each pair of shafts, neither stage being isolated under any circumstances, together with a low-pressure ahead turbine arranged on the other shaft of each pair of shafts. A combination of rotors for reversing in a turbine for use in such an installation is also described. In the arrangement shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1, a high-pressure ahead turbine x and a low-pressure ahead turbine y on a separate shaft are supplied with live steam through a pipe c, a nozzle-regulating device d, a pipe e and valves f, g, which are operated jointly, so that, for cruising purposes, a supply of live steam l to the turbine y may be used, the exhaust steam from both turbines being conducted directly to the condenser k. The astern turbines z on the two shafts are always arranged in parallel, and are supplied with steam through pipes m, n. Fig. 2 shows diagrammatically one half of an installation having four shafts provided with a high-pressure astern turbine u and a lowpressure astern turbine v in addition to the high-pressure ahead turbine x and the lowpressure ahead turbine y. The astern turbines are arranged in series in this case. Fig. 3 shows a sectional view of the upper half of the combined ahead and astern turbine. The ahead turbine comprises an impulse stage b1 followed by a reaction stage c1, and the astern turbine is shown by way of example as comprising two impulse wheels e1, f1. A partition d, separates the ahead and astern portions. A balancing-piston may be provided, preferably at the inlet end of the impulse stage. Additional stages for lower speeds may be provided in the high-pressure turbine, in which case, for maximum power, the steam flows through a by-pass valve r1, which is positively connected with the nozzle-regulating apparatus.
