23,312. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Oct. 12, 1908, [Convention date]. Plant.-A two-shaft marine turbine installation comprises nine elements, five on one shaft and four on the other. The last element on each shaft is of the reaction type; the remaining elements are of the partial-impact impulse type. For normal power, or for independent action when cruising, steam is admitted by way of pipes a, g, and flows in parallel through the two sets of turbines, the element r, however, running idle, the steam exhausting from stage k being passed direct to stage l by way of a pipe q. For low power, the inlet a is closed, and steam entering the inlet g acts upon the stages k, r successively, whence it passes by way of a pipe o to stage c. The steam then divides, part acting upon stages d, e, f, and the remainder passing by a pipe p to stages l, m, n. For intermediate powers, additional nozzles leading to the stage k are opened, and, after acting upon the stage k, the steam passes along pipes q<1>, o direct to stage c and thence passes in parallel through the remaining stages d, e, f and l, m, n. In this case also, the stage r runs idle. The stage r may be replaced by a number of similar stages.
