1433. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. April 10, 1909, [Convention date]. Reversing.- In combined ahead and astern turbines of the kind in which the two turbines are fixed on the same shaft with their exhaust ends adjacent and separated by a partition which is provided with packing at the part through which the shaft passes, the packing is provided with one or more chambers from which any leakage steam is conducted to a lower pressure stage of another turbine or to the atmosphere or to the condenser. Ahead and astern turbines a, b of the impulse type are mounted on the same shaft, but reaction turbines or combined impulse and reaction turbines may be employed. Chambers k, g in the packing f of the partition e, which separates the adjacent exhaust ends, are connected to a lower-pressure stage of another turbine, or to the atmosphere, or to the condenser.
