Motor power plant; reversing.-A turbine installation for ship propulsion comprises two shafts 6. 7 driving the propeller shaft 1 through reduction gearing 4, 3, 5, the shaft 6 being connected to a high-pressure turbine 8 and a cruising turbine 9, while the shaft 7 is connected to a lowpressure turbine 10, reversing turbine elements 23, 27 being arranged in the low-pressure ends of the casings 9, 10 and adapted to work in series. For cruising speeds, the turbines 9, 8, 10 are connected in series; for higher speeds, the turbines 8, 10 operate in series, the casing of the cruising turbine 9 being connected by a pipe 28 with the condenser vacuum; for maximum speed, a valve 14 is opened to admit the motive fluid to an intermediate stage of the turbine 8, which exhausts as before into the turbine 10. Any turbine may be supplied independently with steam.
