Abstract

189,292. Kodama, R. Oct. 4, 1921. Motor power plant; driving and transmission mechanism. -In a turbine instailation driving a propeller shaft 1 through reducing gearing 2, the low-pressure turbine 4 transmits power direct to the gearing, and the highpressure turbine 9 drives an electric generator 7 transmitting power electrically to the gearing. A wide range of speeds is obtained by the provision of (a) valve-controlled pipes 12, 15 connecting the exhaust end of the highpressure turbine respectively with the inlet and outlet ends of the low-pressure turbine, (b) a valve-controlled pipe 17 connecting an intermediate stage of the high-pressure turbine with the inlet end of the low-pressure turbine, and (c) a valve-controlled pipe 19 for supplying live steam to either of the turbines 4, 9. The highpressure turbine may drive the shaft 1 through mechanical gearing, the low-pressure turbine driving the generator. Obturators 30 may be provided for cutting out nozzles and vane passages. In a modification the high-pressure turbine is divided into two separate units.
