Abstract
283,160. Roder, K. Jan. 5, 1927, [Convention date]. Plant; oppositely-running rotor type; balancing moving parts; driving and transmission gear, special applications of.-In a multistage turbine with two shafts in the same axial line and between bearing points of which the stages of the turbine, driven machines and connecting members are arranged, the shafts are arranged so that one shaft end encloses the other and both ends are provided with blades, forming the oppositely running rotors of the high pressure stage of the turbine. The fluid is admitted through a bore in one of the shafts. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the end a of the shaft c of a generator d encloses the end of the shaft b. Blading h is provided to form the high pressure stage of the turbine, a and b being the oppositelyrunning rotors. The fluid is admitted through the bore e in the generator shaft c and the shaft b is connected to other stages of the turbine, exhausting at g. A stuffing box f is arranged to balance the end-thrust in the turbine. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the overlapping shaft-ends a, b form the high pressure stage as before. The fluid is admitted through the bore t of the shaft h and after passing through the blading of a, b, traverses the pipe s to the intermediate stage q, and is led by the pipe v to the low pressure stage r. The outer rotor a is directly connected to the shaft c of the low pressure stage and drives the generator d. The inner rotor b is coupled to the shaft h of the intermediate turbine q. Gearing within the bearings n and m allows the power to be transmitted to other shafts, or from the shaft h to the shaft c. Other arrangements of the turbine stages in relation to the driven machinery may be made, as, for example, parallel high pressure units 1HD, 2HD, Fig. 6, and low pressure units 1ND, 2ND, driving the shaft of the generator G through suitable gearing.
