Abstract
202,767. Bonney, W. H., and Halliday, F. L. J. June 8, 1922. Stop-gear. - Apparatus for operating a stopgear on wear occurring in the bearings of shafts. armatures, &c. comprises an adjustable element one end of which contacts with the rotating body while the other end contacts with a lever transmitting the movement of the element to a trigger release operating a switch in an electric circuit. A finger 10, which contacts with the shaft 6, is mounted in a forked piece 8, the stem of which is adjustably screwed into a rod 1 pivoted at 2 in the casing 4 of the apparatus. The other end of the rod 1 carries a roller 11 engaging a recess in a lever 7 pivoted at 12, the lever 7 being connected by a link 14 to a trigger lever 15 pivoted at 16. A V-notch 17 in the outer end of the lever 15 engages a pin 18 on a switch arm 19 pivoted at 20, the lever 19 carrying a switch element 23 co-operating with switch jaws 24. If wear develops in the bearings, the shaft 6 drops, and the roller 11 in moving upwards pushes the levers 7 and 15 to the left. As the top of the inclined floor of the notch 17 passes beneath the centre of the pin 18, springs 22, 25 pull the lever 19 down to close the switch, the pin 18 riding down an inclined face 21 of the lever 15. The device is reset by pulling a rod 26 having a slot 29 engaging a stud 30 on the lever 7, the slot serving to prevent the mechanism being accidentally actuated. The casing 4 is secured to the machine by bolts passing through slots 32. whereby a coarse adjustment of the apparatus to bring t'he finger 10 into operative position may be made. Fine adjustment is effected by setting the stem of the forked piece 8 in the rod 1. According to the Provisional Specification, the element may be slidably or otherwise mounted and spring-controlled and may make contact with a lever system whereby the movement of the element is magnified and transmitted to the trigger release.
