Abstract
334,306. Tourand et H. Guerrier, A. Oct. 31, 1928, [Convention date]. Actuated by springs.-The brake pedal or lever is connected by a rod 1 with the arm 3 of a bell-crank lever pivoted at 4 and carrying on its arm 5 a rocking lever 7 connected at one end to the brakes by a rod 8 and at the other end to a compression spring 12 which is compressed after the taking up of play in the brake gear and subsequently distends adding its effort to that of the driver. The rod 1 is pivoted to a pin 2 carried on the arm 3 of the bell crank lever connected by a pin 6 on its shorter arm 5 to the rocking lever 7. One end of the rocking lever is connected to the brake rod 8 and the other end is pivoted by a pin 9 to a rod 10 adjustably connected to the compression plate 11 of the spring 12 bearing on a swiveling stud 14 supported in the frame 15 of the apparatus. On the pin 2 is mounted a roller 16 which, when the brake pedal rod 1 is moved in the direction of the arrow abuts against the rocking lever 7 after a certain initial displacement. During the initial displacement the bell-crank lever 3, 5 and rocking lever 7 take up the position A, Fig. 4, the pin 9 reaching the position 9<1> so that the spring 12 is compressed. Continued movement of the brake pedal moves the rocking lever 7 about its pivot 6 by the roller 16, the parts taking up the position B and the pin 9 passing from 9<1> to 9<11> under the expansion of the spring 12 which is released from the action of the pedal rod 1. The spring thus exerts on the brake rod a pull which is added to the force exerted by the driver.
