Abstract

201,655. Shirley, F. J. May 6, 1922. Boxes formed from special blanks; lids; bores combined with means for displaying advertisements.-A box of the kind formed from a blank which, when folded, constitutes the bottom, sides and an apertured top section having a margin around at least two sides, has an outer lid 1 and an inner lid 7 made from the material cut from the top section, the lid 7 being creased along a line 10 situated preferably midway between the hinge and free end so as to be capable, when erected upon its hinge, of folding forward upon itself to display an advertisement, &c. applied to its outer face; when the box is closed, the outer lid covers the lid 7 and is supported by the margins 5 of the top section. The crease 10 may be broken by an ornamental cutting 12 and the lid 7 may be held in its erected position by tongues 13 on the side margins 5 engaging the free corners of the lid; or flaps 14 shown in dotted lines and connected to the sides of the outer lid may be folded to engage slits 15 near the side edges of the inner lid. In a modification the outer lid instead of being hinged to the back wall 2 as shown, is hinged to the apertured top section.
