Abstract
201,139. Bell, J. E. July 22, 1922, [Convention date]. Water-tube boilers; headers; priming, preventing.-In a water-tube boiler a number of vertical steam and water drums C of small diameter are used, each of which has two depending legs C<1>, C<2> connected by inclined tubes D through junction boxes E or by single looped tubes. Horizontal drums I, J connect the drums C above and below the water level. At the upper end of each drum C is fitted a steam separating device comprising outer and inner shells S, SA with perforations S<1> which are out of register. Entrapped water escapes by the tubes S<9>, S<10> to below the water level, from between the shells and within the inner shell respectively. A baffle C<3> is placed in each drum C so as to extend over the higher leg C<2> to assist in preventing priming. In a modified form of boiler two sets of drums are provided, arranged on opposite sides of the furnace and tubes connect the lower leg C<1> of the drums on one side to the higher leg C<2> of the drums on the other side. An economiser P substantially as described in Specifications 200,060 and 205,923, [Class 64 (i), Heating liquids &c.], and a superheater Q<1> substantially as described in Specification 155,585, may be employed.
