Abstract
199,003. Hass, H. June 8, 1922, [Convention date]. Screw propellers; propeller guards. - Stern frames of ships have propeller guide members offset in a vertical plane from the ship's centre line. The frame 1, Fig. 1 has oppositely curved extensions 3, 4, (shown also in Fig. 2) of overall height greater than the propeller diameter. The propeller is arranged in spaced relation to the aft edge of these extensions. In a modification, the after edge 6, Fig. 5, is integral with the stern frame and the plating 5 of the after part of the ship is utilized to form the curved offset guide surfaces. The guide surfaces may be provided with slots so that water can flow from one side to the other, and if the guide surfaces are not integral with the post the parts between the water passages are formed as feet for attachment to the post.
