Wire ropes; strands of special section, with. - In the manufacture of electric and other cables, the cores are formed by first stranding wires of circular cross-section in the usual way and then drawing, rolling or pressing the twisted wires to obtain greater compactness. When three or four wires are treated in this manner the individual wires become sector-shaped as shown in Fig. 2. The finished cable may be circular or polygonal.
