Flat-sided ropes; wire ropes. - Helicallystranded electric cables of D-section, Fig. 2, and rectangular section, Fig. 1, are formed with an increment per layer of seven and eight strands respectively, thereby avoiding the necessity of crushing to the desired shape a round cable having an increment of six strands per layer. The cables are covered by a lapping of tape H, and two D-section cables may be combined, with or without an intermediate rectangular cable, to form a conductor bar. These cables are used for armature construction and are said to have a good space factor. The cables described in the Provisional Specification are not limited to electrical purposes. Specification 16620/08 is referred to.
