Abstract

Jib cranes.-Comprises a modified construction of hoist of the type described in Specifications 135,880 and 167,509, [Class 78 (v), Winding and paying-out apparatus &c.]. In the present construction a jib j is rotatable round a tubular, lattice, or solid standard d on two collars f fitted with ball-bearings. The standard is carried by a portable, fixed, or elevated platform a. A turret r at the head of the standard carries guide pulleys for the winding-ropes and a toothed member t adapted to be engaged by a spring pawl on the jib to lock the latter against rotation. The pawl is operated by a cranked rod connected to the control rope n. The load-engaging means may comprise lifting-dogs of the type described in Specification 154,480 or 169,752. In operation, a pull maintained on the control rope n lifts a clutchoperating lever against the action of a weight. Release of the control rope de-clutches the winding-drum, applies the brake, and releases the locking-means to allow the jib to be rotated.
