Abstract

340,427. Winches. HIGHFIELD, J. S., 36, Victoria Street, London. Jan. 25, 1930, No. 2687. [Class 78 (v).] In a winch comprising an actuating wheel 1 and hoisting barrel 4, the hauling rope 7 passes through a slot in the end 11 of a pivoted member 10 which is provided with a stop 12 to engage either of the stops 13, 14 on the inside of the rim of the wheel 1. When the rope 7 is lifted, the stop 12 is disengaged, and the load is free to move. When the rope 7 is slackened, the catches engage and the load is held. A spring member may be provided to keep the catches in engagement when the winch is not in use.
