Abstract

557,031. Jib cranes. THWAITES, L. B. Oct. 19, 1942, Nos. 14584 and 16154. [Class 78 (iv)] A slueing jib crane and its winch bare mounted on a trailer vehicle a adapted to be connected to a motor vehicle or tractor having a power take-off from which the winch is driven. In the construction shown the winch b is driven through a clutch i, shaft d, gearing e, and a universally-jointed shaft f coupled to the power take-off (not shown) of the tractor. The clutch is controlled by means of a lever k and a rope k<SP>1</SP>, so that one man can handle the load hook h<SP>1</SP> and operate the clutch, a pull on the rope k<SP>1</SP> causing the clutch to be engaged to raise the rope. The jib c slues about a post m and can be locked, when the trailer is being towed, by means of a pin t locking together a fixed bracket o and a plate u swivelling with the jib.
