Abstract
204,329. Br³ll, K. Sept. 21, 1922, [Convention date]. Addition to 178,463. Jib cranes. - Comprises improvements in or modifications of the construction of boom-winch described in the parent Specification, in which the boom was raised, lowered, and slued by the manipulation of three drums. In the present construction, in which the whole of the operations are conducted by a single handle, the hoisting motor 1 drives a shaft 4 which is connected to the hoisting drums 11 through spur gearing 9, 10 and a combined brake and clutch 6. When the controller handle is moved to " hoist " the hoisting motor is started, and an auxiliary motor 41 also is operated to rotate a tappet-carrying shaft 40 to close the clutch 6 and release band brakes 7 and 2. When the load is to be slued, the controller handle is moved so that the shaft 4 still is driven from the hoisting motor, but the motor 41 is driven in the reverse direction, as a result of which the clutch 6 remains open and braked, no drive being transmitted to the drum 11. At the same time the auxiliary motor 42 is energized to rotate the controlling shaft 43 in one direction or the other to manipulate clutch-andbrake mechanism so that one or other of the slueing drums 19, 20 is driven from the shaft 4.
